I haven’t been to the movies in a long time. The last movie I saw in the theater was a cartoon. Pretty sure it was Rango. Nothing that’s come out this past year was worth seeing – other than Atlas Shrugged Part 1 (which I saw twice). I finally saw Bridesmaids on DVD and I just didn’t think it was all that funny. I thought the best friend was a pathetic self-centered brat. The only funny part of the movie was the gal that plays Molly on Mike and Molly. Now she was funny. The rest of the cast not so much.

We had planned to go see Margin Call when it came out but just never found the time. We got it on Netflix this past weekend and now I’m happy we didn’t spend a chunk of money seeing it in the theater. It could have been good, but it was just okay. Not a good explanation of the financial crisis as it had been presented to be. If you didn’t already know some of the back story, you were left going WTH. And I kept expecting more from Kevin Spacey. Even though his acting is kind of hit-or-miss.

So, I’m pretty sure I won’t be going to the theater again until another cartoon comes out – or for Atlas Shrugged Part 2 (due out April 15).

How did it get to be December already???

Things have been really crazy all year. I’m absolutely NOT doing any kind of retrospective of 2011. Let me just say I will not be sorry to say goodbye to it. This has been a rough year and one I’d prefer never to look back on.

But what’s been happening lately? It’s pretty much been all about work. Not doing a rant… just stating that it’s also been rough.

I guess the biggest news lately is this:

Mike’s car bit the dust a couple weeks ago. With only a little over 350,000 miles on it. Can you believe that?! Seriously he did think he’d get further with it, but it was 10 years old so I guess we got our money’s worth. He took the VUE and I was going to try to get along without replacing it. I lasted almost two weeks. Then I gave in and got this 2012 Ford Flex. My first-ever Ford. And guess why I got a Ford? Yeah, mostly because NO GOVERNMENT BAILOUT MONEY! Yeah, I know, but I was really having a hard time living with the idea of General Motors. Besides, they killed Saturn so no more of my money will go there. Ever. Well, I guess it will will until the VUE is paid off. But no more new cars ever!

Random and Rambling…

I know I haven’t posted much in a long time. And today I want to vent. People piss me off. I spend a lot of time following certain people on Flickr, and lately I’ve spent quite a bit of time on Pinterest (thanks again, Claudia!) and there are a couple of things that annoy me… on Flickr – why do people comment on other people’s comments that weren’t directed to them? I commented on someone’s photo that mentioned a contest and someone completely unrelated left a snarky comment about reading the rules. Well, can I say DUH, if I could I would. The photo belonged to seven different groups, several of which I couldn’t access as a non-member.

Okay, on to my complaint about people on Pinterest. I love Pinterest, don’t get me wrong. But seriously people, if you’re going to post fashion items, don’t just link to a picture of something you like that doesn’t tie back to where someone else can buy it. That’s just rude. And if you re-pin something, shouldn’t you put your own comment so you (and others) know why you found it pin-worthy?

And don’t even get me started on the people I have to interact with every day… if you make a good salary and have a responsible position in the company you work for, do you really need constant validation and hand-holding? They really ought to call it adult daycare, because that’s pretty much what it is.

Busy summer… I think

I’m not sure why it’s been so hard to keep my blog up this summer. I don’t think there’s been that much going on – no big vacations or anything like that. But for some reason I just haven’t had much to show or say.

Yesterday Mike and I went with Ryan and Melissa to the Renaissance Festival. We had a great time. We saw a couple of shows, did some people watching and ate some good food. Here are some photos of our day:

Good question… and the answer is… nowhere, really. I almost forgot I had this blog. I’ve mostly been busy with work stuff. My Dad seems to be back on track. I haven’t taken a vacation, although there’s a mini trip planned for the first part of October.

All in all, I guess there’s not been much to say.

Maybe that just means things are going well…

I feel like I’ve been disconnected from my life lately. Pretty sure everyone knows my Dad went into the hospital back in April. It started with a sore on his toe and escalated to a bunch of problems, including a possible diagnosis of Mesothelioma.

It turned out not to be cancer, thankfully, but there were a number of procedures involved and a six-week hospital stay (including a week or so in Transitional Care).

My Dad’s back home but he’s pretty weak and VERY CRABBY. We went to the doctor yesterday. He brought up the idea of Assisted Living. I thought my Dad wasn’t listening but apparently he was. Because this morning he got really snarky about a few things. He seems to believe “they’re trying to get everything I have”… whoever THEY are…

So, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have to give him an insulin shot every morning. Mostly because he absolutely refuses to consider doing it himself. I asked the doctor about the insulin pump yesterday but he said Medicare won’t pay for it in my Dad’s case because his body still produces insulin. I would consider buying it myself but it’s about $8,000. For the next couple weeks the nurse will give him the shot but that’s only temporary.

Do I sound like I’m compaining? I guess I am. I’m frustrated. I’m feeling like a hypocrite because I’m one of those people who thinks Social Security should be privatized and Medicare should be done away with. But then what would happen to people like my Dad who never gave a thought to what might happen if he lived past retirement…

I had a great birthday!

Mike got me a card, with a clue… he’s going to Chicago with us! Yay!

Yesterday he took me to lunch at Lund’s and I also got to pick out these flowers:

Work has been a roller coaster ride the last couple of weeks. I decided that even though things were sucking canal water, at least I know the worst of it. Still not sure what’s possessing a certain someone to behave like Sybil (remember the movie/book from – what was that the 70′s? where the main character had a multitude of personalities?) but I think it’s gotten better. Either that or I’m just numb to it now.

Mike had a bad night the other night but he seems to have gotten over that cold/flu thing finally.

We went over to Dennis’ for fajitas last night. Scott cooked. It was fun but you know how I feel about leaving the house once I get home… LOL.

So, really, I have nothin. I’m just trying to get through the end of the month when the first phase of the project will officially be done.
